Oracle stops developing software for Intel Itanium - this is the end

With Microsoft and Red Hat stopped developing software for Intel Itanium microprocessor and now Oracle announced that they too will discontinue all the software development for the said processor.

"Oracle said Intel management made it clear that their strategic focus is on their x86 microprocessor and that Itanium was nearing the end of its life."

Oracle, will continue to provide customers with support for existing versions of Oracle software products that already run on Itanium.

I guess the long serving Itanium is near its end.
