Google Gmail is getting a new look. A leaked video showcasing the new interface design.

"According to the demo, the conversation view is getting an overhaul to better show the details, and profile pictures will start showing up in contacts to help you keep track of who's who. Google - the world's fourth largest computer maker

Google is not just the world's largest search engine but the world's fourth largest computer manufacturer after Dell, HP, and IBM, according to Martin Reynolds, an analyst with the Gartner Group.

Google makes their own computer servers typically because they need customized server for their own needs.

According to Wikipedia: Google Platform;

Though the numbers are not publicly known, some people estimate that Google maintains over 450,000 servers, arranged in racks located in clusters in cities around the world, with major centers in Mountain View, California; Council Bluffs, Iowa; Herndon, Virginia; Lenoir, North Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; Dublin, Ireland; Saint-Ghislain, Belgium; Zürich, Switzerland; Tokyo, Japan; Beijing, China; …Racks are custom-made and contain 40 to 80 servers…

Servers are commodity-class x86 PCs running customized versions of Linux. The goal is to purchase CPU generations that offer the best performance per dollar, not absolute performance. Estimates of the power required for over 450,000 servers range upwards of 20 megawatts, which cost on the order of US$2 million per month in electricity charges.

Google will shutdown GOOGLE VIDEO - migrating all files to YouTube

Google will shutdown its video streaming service Google Video. As reported before Google encourages its subscriber to either download their personal video or transfer the video to YouTube using the "Upload Videos to YouTube" button.

As engadget reported, Google will do the migration automatically rather than the users themselves. I am not sure why Google encourages first its subscriber to the manual labor despite the fact that they can do the job in a matter of few press of a button.

One main reason I can think of is that they need extra data center to handle the files temporarily. And I guess they found a fast way of migrating the video files to YouTube data center.

Google Anti Content Farm - hurting the content farmers

The latest algorithm update of Google that targets content farms shaken the SEO World. Google point out that Content farms drives users to low quality articles rather than to have high quality contents, thus a new algorithm upgrade has been made few weeks back.

Content farms were reposities of article, editorials and How-To's that aims to boost other websites' search engine ranking. This articles attracts blogs and bloggers link to them, thus increasing the authority of the content farms. Lastly, once the content farms become the authority site, it will provide SEO help to other smaller site to increase the PR with a price of course.

Personally I tried doing this, my article site is squidoo.com and I wrote few articles in squidoo and pointing out valiable keywords to my money site. This improves the search engine ranking of my money site but with the new google algorithm I am still observing the effects to my blog.

Some of the content farm that has been greatly affected by the new google algorithm are:

TOP 5 website the lost visitibility: articlebase.com, suite101.com, associated.com, business.com, essortment.com

Top 5 search rank losser: suite101.com, associatedcontent.com, buzzle.com, ezineartiles.com,  hubpages.com

Some sites also gain from this new algorithm upgrade, and most of this are community based (real people) like ehow.com and answers.yahoo.com. We cannot deny that some content farm contents are copy and paste articles or spinned article.
